Mentre il partito continua a sistemare le posizioni di doppio incarico dei propri parlamentari, William Humphrey sostituisce Nigel Dodds a Stormont. Tutti i big del DUP scelgono Westminster
Presidente del DUP a North Belfast e membro dell’esecutivo del partito unionista, Humphrey è stato coinvolto nelle questioni riguardanti le case per molti anni. E’ stato membro del gruppo di lavoro di Shankill e dell’associazione residenti di Woodvale.
“North Belfast ha un’orgogliosa storia all’interno dell’unionismo, contenendo Duncairn, l’area rappresentata da Edward Carson in Parlamento. Tuttavia ci sono molte questioni attuali, sia economiche che sociali, che continuano a richiedere concentrazione”, ha affermato.
“Le riduzioni che stiamo vedendo nelle spese pubbliche non possono semplicemente venire ignorate, ma è importante che sia l’Esecutivo che l’Assemblea lavorino per minimizzare l’impatto che avranno sui servizi importanti”.
Ha ringraziato il suo predecessore, che ha deciso di continuare a sedere sul seggio di Westminster.
“Nigel ha un curriculum di duro lavoro sul campo, facendo la differenza nella vita delle persone abitanti nella circoscrizione. Sarà un esempio che cercherò di seguire”, ha affermato.
Il leader del DUP, Peter Robinson, ha dato il benvenuto a Stormont a William Humprey.
“So che William ci metterà quell’entusiasmo e la guida per rappresentare le persone nella circoscrizione di North Belfast.

New north Belfast MLA named
William Humphrey is to replace Nigel Dodds at the Northern Ireland Assembly, as the party continues to phase out double-jobbing.
Chairman of the DUP in north Belfast and member of the party executive, Mr Humphrey has been involved in housing issues for many years. He has been a member of the greater Shankill taskforce and Woodvale residents’ association.
“North Belfast has a proud history within unionism containing Duncairn, the area represented by Edward Carson in Parliament. However, there are many current issues, both economic and social which continue to require focus within it today,” he said.
“The reductions we are facing in public expenditure cannot simply be ignored, but it is important that both the Executive and Assembly work to minimise the impact these will have on important services.”
He paid tribute to his predecessor, who retained his North Belfast Westminster seat earlier this year.
“Nigel has a proven track record of dedicated hard work on the ground, making a difference in peoples’ lives within the Constituency. That will be the record I will strive to emulate,” he said.
DUP leader Peter Robinson welcomed Mr Humphrey at Stormont.
“I know that William will take that enthusiasm and drive to representing people right across the North Belfast Constituency,” he said.
