Arrivano nuove informazioni sul cadavere ritrovato ieri sera nei dintorni di Derry. Potrebbe trattarsi di un’esecuzione compiuta dai paramilitari
Il parlamentare di Westminster Mark Durkan, SDLP, ha detto che l’omicidio fa eco alle cosiddette “esecuzioni” compiute dall’IRA durante i Troubles.
“La gente di Derry sarà disgustata e sconvolta nel sapere di questo omicidio”, ha affermato.
“Sono stato sulla scena dove è stato ritrovato il corpo e ho parlato con la polizia di questo orribile assassinio.
“Per conto dello SDLP, condanno totalmente e assolutamente questo brutale omicidio che ci riporta al peggio del nostro passato”.
Martina Anderson, Sinn Fein, ha riferito che la scoperta del corpo è stata fatta da abitanti del luogo, intorno alle 22.30 di mercoledì.
“Parlando con il personale dei servizi di emergenza presenti sulla scena, (mi hanno detto che) il corpo era completamente nudo e le sue mani legate”.
La vittima deve ancora essere identificata.
Nessuna rivendicazione
I soccorritori hanno provveduto a coprire il corpo con un telo, quando è stata appurata la morte dell’uomo.
La polizia ha piantato una tenda della scientifica sulla scena del crimine e gli agenti hanno iniziato a perlustrare l’area.
Deve ancora essere stabilito un motivo per l’omicidio e nessun gruppo paramilitare ha rivendicato l’attacco.
La Anderson ha riferito: “La gente con cui ho parlato nella mia comunità, e vorrei dire anche la grande maggioranza della popolazione dell’isola d’Irlanda, dovrebbe essere assolutamente sconvolta e deve condannare ciò che è avvenuto”.
La parlamentare shinner non è a conoscenza dell’identità della vittima, ma ha aggiunto: “Sappiamo che c’è una famiglia là fuori che sta per ricevere notizie sconvolgenti, e tutti i nostri pensieri vanno a quella famiglia.
“E’ sbagliato. Non c’è posto per questo nella nostra società. Vogliamo buttare fuori tutte le pistole dalla nostra comunità. Siamo assolutamente disgustati da quanto accaduto”.
Ha detto degli assassini: “Come osano”.
Il parlamentare del DUP Gregory Campbell ha condannato la morte violenta osservando come “presenta una notevole somiglianza con gli omicidi dei Provisional IRA (PIRA) e di altri gruppi duranti i Troubles.
“Mentre c’è un gran parlare di fermare i responsabili dal riportarci indietro nel passato, questo può avvenire solo se la comunità fornisce qualsiasi informazione alla polizia”.

Man shot dead in paramilitary-style ‘execution’
The murder of a man shot dead on the outskirts of Londonderry, close to the border with Co Donegal, bears the hallmarks of a paramilitary style ‘execution’.
The MP for Foyle Mark Durkan said the killing echoed the so-called “execution” murders carried out by the IRA during the Troubles.
“The people of Derry will be disgusted and appalled to learn of this murder,” he said.
“I attended the scene of where the body was found and I have spoken to the police about this horrific killing.”
“On behalf of the SDLP, I totally and absolutely condemn this brutal and crude murder which is a throwback to the very worst of our past.”
Sinn Fein’s Martina Anderson said the body was discovered by people living in the area at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.
“Speaking to the emergency services who were on the scene, the body was stripped naked and his hands were bound.”
The victim has yet to be identified.
No claim of responsibility
Emergency services were called and a sheet was placed over the murdered man when it became clear he was dead.
Police placed a forensic tent over the scene and officers have started a forensic search of the area.
A motive for the murder has yet to be identified and there has been no claim of responsibility from a paramilitary group.
Ms Anderson said: “The people that I have spoken to in my community, and I would say the vast majority of people across the island of Ireland, would be absolutely shocked and condemn outright what happened.”
She said she was unaware of the victim’s identity, but added: “What we do know is that there is a family out there who is going to be hearing some shocking news, and I think all of our thoughts and sympathy would be with that family.”
“It is wrong. There is no place for this in our society. We all want the gun to be taken out of our community. We are absolutely disgusted with what happened.”
She said of the killers: “How dare they.”
DUP MP Gregory Campbell condemned the shooting “bears a remarkable similarity to murders by the Provisional IRA (PIRA) and others during the troubles.”
“Whilst there is much talk of stopping those responsible from dragging us back to the past, this can only be the case if the community gives whatever information they have to the police.”
