Famiglia cattolica lascia la casa dopo attacco settario

Una famiglia è stata obbligata a lasciare la propria abitazione nella Contea di Londonderry dopo un presunto attacco settario avvenuto con lancio di bottiglie molotov

Un ordigno incendiario è stato lanciato nelle prime ore di sabato contro l’autovettura della famiglia cattolica, parcheggiata fuori da casa in Killyvalley Park a Garvagh. Già nel periodo natalizio la vettura aveva subito dei danni. Qualcuno, infatti, aveva tagliato tutte le gomme dell’auto.

A pochi metri di distanza una seconda molotov ha colpito la casa di una famiglia di religione mista, infrangendo una finestra e provocando bruciature.

Entrambe le famiglie hanno bambini piccoli tra i 3 ed i 13 anni. I politici locali descrivono l’attacco come “sinistro” e “scioccante”.

“La comunità è stordita, non si riesce a capire perché questo sarebbe accaduto”, ha riferito a Utv il parlamentare del DUP per East Londonderry Adrian McQuillan.

“Certo gli abitanti dicono che tutto ciò che è successo qui non è accaduto dall’interno di questo quartiere. Pensavo che in Irlanda del Nord avremmo passato questa fase, ma questa mattina siamo tornati a vecchi tempi”.

Il parlamentare SDLP John Dallat ha detto che mentre l’area ha avuto i suoi problemi in passato, gli abitanti – molti dei quali sono di famiglie di religione mista – hanno lavorato per una comunità condivisa.

“Credo ci sia un piccolo elemento che non rappresenta nessuno e che è stato responsabile di molti crimini commessi a Garvagh nel corso degli anni”, ha detto Dallat a Utv.

“Sono molto pericolosi e penso che la polizia abbia avuto modo di concentrarsi su di loro e fare in modo che essi non abbiano la libertà di fare questo genere di cose”.

La polizia riferisce che il movente settario è una linea di indagine, e hanno lanciato un appello per chiunque abbia informazioni sugli attacchi affinché si metta in contatto con loro.

Family move out after ‘sectarian’ Derry attack

A family in Co Londonderry said they have been forced to leave their home after being targeted by petrol bombers in a suspected sectarian attack.

A device was thrown in the early hours of Saturday morning, destroying the family’s car outside their house in Killyvalley Park, Garvagh.

Just yards away a second device struck a house, breaking a window and causing scorch damage.

Both families have young children aged between three and 13. Local politicians have described the incidents as “sinister” and “shocking”.

“The community are saying they are just stunned, they can’t understand why this would happen,” East Londonderry DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan told UTV.

“Certainly they’re saying that anything that happened here didn’t happen from within this estate. I thought we were past this stage in Northern Ireland and this morning we’re back to the bad old days.”

SDLP MLA John Dallat MLA said that while the area has had its problems in the past, the people there – many of whom are of mixed-religion families – have been working towards a shared community.

“I do believe there’s a small element that’s not representative of anybody who has been responsible for a lot of the crimes that have been committed in Garvagh over the years,” Mr Dallatt told UTV.

“They are a dangerous lot and I think the police have got to focus on them and make sure that they do not have the freedom to do this sort of thing.”

Police say a sectarian motive is one line of inquiry, and have appealed for anyone with information on the attacks to contact them.
