Sei persone sono decedute e sei sono rimaste ferite nello schianto aereo all’aeroporto di Cork
Il volo Manx2 da Belfast, volo numero NM7100, aveva a bordo 10 passeggeri e due membri del personale quando si è schiantato al suolo.
L’aereo da 18 posti si è ribaltato ed ha preso fuoco dopo aver provato ad effettuare il terzo tentativo di atterraggio in una fitta nebbia.
Un testimone presente all’aeroporto di Cork ha detto a Rté News che le condizioni meteo erano così scarse che l’incidente non è stato visto attraverso le vetrate del terminal.
Quattro dei sopravvissuti – trasportati al Cork University Hospital – sono in condizioni gravi.
Il volo doveva partire alle 7:50 dal George Belfast City Airport di Belfast. Ha deccolato in lieve ritardo, alle 8:12, e doveva atterrare a Cork alle 9:10.
Il primo tentativo di atterraggio è stato fatto arrivando da sud, verso la principale aerovia, chiamata Runway 17. La mancanza di visibilità ha fatto abortire il tentativo.
L’aereo allora ha cercato un approccio alla pista di atterraggio seguendo la rotta da nord, conosciuta come Runway 35. La Aviation Authority ritiene che il vento non fosse un problema, ma il pilota non era ancora felice per la visibilità.
L’aeroplano è tornato in quota per altri 20 minuti, prima di fare un terzo tentativo di atterrare proveniendo da sud.
Alle 9:42 l’aereo si trovava a 10 miglia dall’aeroporto. Pochi minuti dopo l’aereo ha toccato il suolo in quella che è chiamata la “soglia occidentale” della pista principale. I testimoni dicono di aver udito un forte rumore.

LIVE – Six dead in Cork Airport plane crash
Six people are confirmed dead and six others are injured following a plane crash at Cork Airport.
The Manx2 commuter flight from Belfast, flight number NM7100, had 10 passengers and two crew on board when it crashed.
The 18-seater light turboprop aircraft overturned and caught fire while making a third attempt to land in heavy fog.
A witness at Cork Airport told RTÉ News that weather conditions were so poor that the crash could not be seen from the terminal building.
Four of the surviving passengers at Cork University Hospital are said to be a serious condition – the other two are described as comfortable.
The flight was scheduled to depart Belfast at 7.50am and eventually left at 8.12am It was due to land in Cork at 9.10am.
The plane first attempted to land from a southerly direction on Cork’s main runway, known as Runway 17. This was aborted due to low visibility.
It then tried to land on the northerly approach to the main runway, known as Runway 35. The Aviation Authority says it is believed wind was not a problem, but the pilot was still unhappy with visibility.
The plane went into a holding position for 20 mins, before making a third attempt to land on the southerly approach to the main runway.
At 9.42am, the plane was ten miles out from the airport. Minutes later, the plane hit the ground at what is called the ‘western threshold’ of the runway. Eye witnesses reported hearing a loud bang.
