I tre uomini accusati dopo il ritrovamento di un’arma nella loro auto sarebbero legati alla Real IRA, è stato riferito in aula
Mark McGuigan, 26 anni, Martin McClune e Darryn Patrick McCallion, entrambi di 22 anni, sono accusati per possesso di armi da fuoco volte a mettere in pericolo vite umane e per possesso di munizioni in circostanze sospette.
Sono stati fermati dalla polizia che indagava sull’attività repubblicana, dopo che la Ford Fiesta su cui viaggiavano era stata fermata e perquisita lunedì sera vicino a Cookstown.
Un borsone verde è stato trovato nell’auto. Al suo interno un revolver caricato con sei proiettili. Altre munizioni sono state trovate avvolte in una calza.
McGuigan, di Omagh, McClune e McCallion, entrambi di Derry, sono comparsi nel Strabane Magistrates Court giovedì.
Un detective ha affermato alla corte che il terzetto stava svolgendo “compiti operativi” per la Real IRA.
Opponendosi al rilascio con la condizionale, ha affermato che i tre sono un grave rischio per la società e potrebbero reiterare i reati.
Un avvocato difensore ha chiesto se l’arma era fuzionante.
Nessuno degli accusati ha rilasciato dichiarazioni durante gli interrogatori della polizia. Tuttavia McGuigan ha detto di non sapere nulla dell’arma da fuoco e ha negato di appartenere a qualsiasi organizzazione.
A McClune e McGuigan è stato negato il rilascio.
McCallion invece affronterà l’udienza per il rilascio con la condizionale entro fine mese.
Tutti e tre gli accusati sono stati rimandati in custodia.
Un quarto uomo, presente nella vettura al momento dei fermi, viene ancora interrogato dalla polizia.

Cookstown arms accused ‘on RIRA duty’
Three men charged with arms offences after a weapon was found in their car in Co Tyrone were on duty with the Real IRA, a court has heard.
Mark McGuigan, 26, Martin McClune and Darryn Patrick McCallion, both 22, are charged with possession of firearms with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition in suspicious circumstances.
They were arrested by police investigating dissident activity after their Ford Fiesta was stopped and searched near Cookstown on Monday night.
A green holdall bag was found in the car, containing a revolver loaded with six live bullets. More ammunition was found rolled up in a sock.
McGuigan from Sperrin View in Omagh, McClune from Abercorn Road, Derry, and Darryn Patrick McCallion from Rathlin Drive, Derry, appeared at Strabane Magistrates Court on Thursday.
A detective told the court he believes the trio were on “operational duty” with the Real IRA.
He opposed bail, saying that, given the current security situation, they posed a serious risk to society and could re-offend.
A defence lawyer questioned whether the gun was a viable weapon.
None of the accused made any comment during police interviews. However McGuigan denied membership of any organisation and any knowledge of the firearm.
McMcloone and McGuigan were denied bail.
McCallion will make a bail application later this month.
All three men were remanded in custody.
A fourth man, who was also in the car when the arrests were made, is still being questioned by police.
