“Imitazione di ordigno” presso abitazione candidato SDLP a Creggan, Derry

L’oggetto sospetto trovato a Creggan presso l’abitazione di un candidato al consiglio comunale, è stato descritto dalla polizia come “una imitazione di ordigno”

L’oggetto si trovava nel giardino anteriore della casa di Jim Clifford. Il ritrovamento è avvenuto martedì mattina.

Iniscarn Road è stata chiusa dall’incrocio con Linsfort Drive e Rathlin Drive, mentre le indagini venivano eseguite sul luogo dell’allarme.

Deviazioni al traffico sono state messe in atto, ma ora tutto è ritornato normale.

Un buon numero di abitazioni in Iniscarn Road sono state evacuate durante l’allarme e anche i residenti di Iniscarn Court sono stati costretti a lasciare le proprie case.

Clifford dice che l’incidente “non era solo un attacco contro la mia casa ma contro l’intera comunità”.

“Vicini, amici e familiari sono stati evacuati e durante gli spostamenti verso la scuola i genitori ed i figli sono stati spaventati e gravemente danneggiati. Anziani sono stati fatti uscire dai propri letti”, afferma il candidato SDLP.

“Questo è un attacco alla democrazia e i responsabili non hanno interesse per la volontà della popolazione. Questo è un attacco contro l’intera comunità.

“L’attacco non mi fermerà dal fare la mia parte nel rappresentare la gente della zona. Ci ha resi ancora più decisi”.

‘Elaborate hoax’ at candidate’s home

A suspicious object found at the home of an SDLP council candidate in the Creggan area of Londonderry has been described by police as “an elaborate hoax.”

The object was found in the front garden of Jim Clifford’s home on Tuesday morning.

Iniscarn Road was closed at its junction with Linsfort Drive and Rathlin Drive while investigations were carried out at the scene of the alert.

Diversions were put in place, but all restrictions have now been lifted.

A large number of properties on Iniscarn Road were evacuated during the alert and residents in the Iniscarn Court area were also forced to leave their homes.

Mr Clifford said the incident was “not just an attack on my home but the entire community.”

“Neighbours, friends and family have had to be evacuated and during the school rush parents and children have been frightened and severely inconvenienced. Elderly neighbours have been brought from their beds,” he said.

“This is an attack on democracy and those responsible have no interest in the will of the people. This is an attack on the entire community.

“This will not deter me or my party from representing the people of the area and further afield. Indeed, it has made our resolve stronger.”
