“Inutili” le speculazioni su ordigno al Belfast International Airport

Ci sono crescenti preoccupazioni sul fatto che l’auto contenente un ordigno potrebbe essere rimasta nel parcheggio a lungo termine del Belfast International Airport per quasi un anno

Una pipe bomb ed un liquido infiammabile sono stati trovati nella Toyota Carina grigia al centro dell’allarme sicurezza all’aeroporto di belfast nel fine settimana.

La polizia ha affermato che il personale dell’aeroporto ha notato il veicolo fermo nel parcheggio a lungo termine intorno alle 14:30 di sabato. Il mezzo è stato rimosso per ulteriori esami forensi nelle prime ore di domenica mattina.

I voli non hanno subito ritardi causa l’incidente.

In un comunicato, l’azienda che gestisce l’aeroporto afferma che le speculazioni sulla durata di tempo in cui l’auto e l’ordigno sono rimasti senza essere notati nel parcheggio sono “inutili a questo punto”.

“La PSNI continua ad indagare le esatte circostanze dell’incidente presso il Belfast International Airport di sabato 30 ottobre”, si legge.

“Mentre l’incidente è oggetto di un’indagine di polizia, l’aeroporto non aggiungerà nulla rispetto a quanto comunicato dalla polizia. Le speculazioni sugli eventi che circondano l’incidenti sono inutili al momento”.

La polizia ha riferito che non rilascerà alcun commento sulla questione.

Gli investigatori chiedono informazioni a chiunque abbia notato la Toyota Carina, targata PDZ 2001, nel parcheggio a lungo termine dell’aeroporto.

Sempre sabato un altro ordigno contenente oltre 40 kg di esplosivo artigianale inserito in un fusto di birra è stato messo in sicurezza a Lurgan.

I repubblicani sono indicati come responsabili degli ultimi attacchi.

Airport device speculation ‘unhelpful’

There are growing concerns that a car containing a viable explosive device may have been sitting in the long stay car park at Belfast International Airport for almost a year.

A pipe bomb and suspected flammable liquid was found in the grey-coloured Toyota Carina car at the centre of a security alert in the airport grounds at the weekend.

Police said airport staff spotted the suspicious vehicle in the long stay car park at around 2.30pm on Saturday. It was removed for further forensic tests in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Flights were not affected by the incident.

In a statement, the airport said speculation about the length of time the car and the device stayed unnoticed in the car park was “unhelpful at this time”.

“The PSNI are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances around the incident at Belfast International Airport on Saturday 30 October”, the airport said.

“As the incident is the subject of an active police investigation, the airport will not be adding to what the Police have already said. Speculation as to the events surrounding the incident are unhelpful at this time.”

Police said they would not comment on the matter.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who noticed the Toyota Carina carrying the registration number PDZ 2001 in the long stay car park at the airport to contact them.

Another device containing over 40kg of explosives in a beer keg was also made safe in Lurgan, Co Armagh on Saturday.

Dissident republicans are being blamed for both attacks.
