La famiglia di Kieran Doherty, membro della Real IRA assassinato, dice che l’indagine che non ha trovato connessioni tra l’MI5 e la sua morte non ha dato loro le risposte di cui hanno bisogno – chiede una inchiesta della PSNI
E’ stato ucciso in un attacco eseguito dalla Real IRA.
Prima della sua morte, Kieran sostenne di essere stato molestato dall’MI5 per diventare un loro agente.
Poi, dopo le preoccupazioni espresse dalla sua famiglia per un presunto coinvolgimento dell’MI5 nella sua morte, fu ordinata un’inchiesta.
L’inchiesta – effettuata dal consulente indipendente per la sicurezza del governo Lord Carlile – ha escluso il collegamento dell’MI5 con la morte di Doherty.
Ha detto che non c’era “cattiva condotta o infrazione da parte di persone collegate direttamente o indirettamente con il servizio pubblico” in connessione con l’omicidio.
Ma Vinny Coyle, zio di Kieran, ha detto a Utv che l’indagine non può fermarsi qui.
“Lord Carlile non ha raggiunto il nocciolo del nostro problema”, ha detto Coyle.
“Il problema delle famiglie è stato che per quattro mesi prima del suo assassinio da parte della Real IRA Kieran era andato dai media locali, dalla stampa e da un parlamentare locale, segnalando le molestie che stava ricevendo.
“Quello che speravamo era che l’MI5 potesse produrre una sorta di prova per aiutare la PSNI nella loro ricerca.”
Coyle anche detto a Utv che Lord Carlile non ritiene ci sia stata alcuna azione impropria adottata dai servizi di sicurezza: “Ciò che dobbiamo sapere ora è cosa sarebbe improprio da parte dei servizi di sicurezza. Cosa ritiene inaccettabile?”
Coyle chiede un dibattito sulla questione alla House of Commons (Camera dei Comuni) e una completa indagine di polizia.
“Quello che vorremmo fare è chiedere al Segretario di Stato dell’Irlanda del Nord di avere un vero e proprio dibattito sul ruolo che l’MI5 stanno svolgendo a Palace Barracks”, ha aggiunto.
“Ci appelliamo anche a Matt Baggott affinché svolga una completa indagine di polizia sull’affermazione fatta dalla famiglia”.

Doherty family ‘still seeking’ MI5 answers
The family of murdered Real IRA member Kieran Doherty say an investigation which found MI5 had no connection to his death has not given them the answers they need – amid calls for a PSNI inquiry.
He was shot in an attack which the Real IRA said they carried out.
Before his death, Kieran claimed he was being harassed by MI5 to become an agent for them.
Then, following concerns by his family that the organisation may have had something to do with his death, an inquiry was ordered.
The investigation – which was carried out by independent government advisor for security Lord Carlile – found M15 was not connected.
He said there was no “misbehaviour or infraction by anybody connected directly or indirectly with the public service” in connection with the murder.
But Kieran’s uncle Vinny Coyle has told UTV while he welcomes the investigation it cannot stop there.
“Lord Carlile has not covered the nub of our issue,” Mr Coyle said.
“The families issue was for four months prior to his murder by the Real IRA Kieran had gone to the local media and press and a local MLA and reported to them the harassment he was receiving.
“What we were hoping was that MI5 could produce some sort of evidence that could help the PSNI in their quest.”
Mr Coyle also told UTV Lord Carlile said there had been no improper action taken by the security services: “What we need to know now is what would be improper by the security services? What does he deem as improper?”
Mr Coyle is calling for a debate on the issue in the House of Commons and a full police investigation.
“What we would like to do now is ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to have a proper debate on the role that MI5 are playing at Palace Barracks,” he added.
“We would also call on Matt Baggott to now carry out a full police investigation into the allegation made by the family.”
