La polizia ha compiuto una perquisizione nella sede del Policing Board e a casa del presidente Barry Gilligan
Le ricerche sono state eseguite nel corso di un’indagine sul ruolo dell’Housing Executive in un cantiere edile di Belfast.
Il cantiere di Nelson Street è di proprietà di Big Picture Developments, che indica Gilligan come uno dei suoi direttori.
Le ricerche sono state condotte dall’Organised Crime Branch (Sezione Crimine Organizzato) della PSNI.
L’Housing Executive ha chiamato la polizia per indagare il proprio ruolo nello sviluppo del sito cinque mesi fa.
In un comunicato, la PSNI ha detto: “Ricerche sono state condotte a Belfast, nell’ambito di un’indagine su questioni relative allo sviluppo del territorio a Nelson Street, nel centro di Belfast.
“Un certo numero di oggetti sono stati rimossi per ulteriori esami sia dall’ufficio che dalla casa “.
Una portavoce del Policing Board ha dichiarato di poter confermare che una ricerca è stata effettuata nell’ambito di un’indagine in corso.
Il consigliere del Policing Board per l’Ulster Unionist, Basil McCrea, ha detto che l’organismo “deve rimanere concentrato sulla sua missione statutaria” nonostante le indagini che coinvolgono il suo presidente.
“Molte questione significative sono di fronte al Northern Ireland Policing Board, al momento, non da ultimo le finanze del PSNI e un continuo peggioramento della situazione della sicurezza.
“E’ importante che il consiglio resti concentrato e pronto ad affrontare le proprie responsabilità istituzionali”, ha detto .

Police search Policing Board office and chairman’s home
The police have searched an office at Policing Board headquarters and the home of the board’s chairman Barry Gilligan.
The searches were carried out as part of an investigation into the role of the Housing Executive in a Belfast housing site.
The site at Nelson Street is owned by Big Picture Developments, which lists Mr Gilligan as one of its directors.
The searches were conducted by the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branch.
The Housing Executive called in the police to investigate its own role in the development site in north Belfast five months ago.
In a statement, the PSNI said: “Searches have been conducted in Belfast as part of an investigation into matters concerning development land at Nelson Street in Belfast city centre.
“A number of items have been removed for examination from an office and a house.”
A spokeswoman for the Policing Board said it could confirm that a search was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation.
Ulster Unionist Policing Board member Basil McCrea said the board’s focus “must remain on its statutory remit” despite the investigation involving its chairman.
“Many significant issues are facing the Northern Ireland Policing Board at present, not least the finances of the PSNI and an ever worsening security situation.
“It is important that the Board remains focused and poised to address its statutory responsibilities,” he said.
