Lealisti lasciano pipe bomb sul davanzale di una casa cattolica ad Antrim

Una famiglia cattolica ha evitato di restare ferita quando una pipe bomb perfettamente funzionante è stata lasciata sul davanzale della loro abitazione da un gruppo paramilitare lealista

L’ordigno – che non è esploso – è stato messo in sicurezza dagli artificieri dell’esercito.

L’allarme era stato lanciato alle 7:15 di questa mattina in Fir Grove Lane, dopo i rapporti che indicavano la presenza di un oggetto sospetto.

Gli agenti della PSNI hanno individuato la pipe bomb sul davanzale della finestra di una scasa situata in un cul-de-sac (vicolo senza uscita).

Alcune abitazioni vicine sono state evacuate quando gli artificieri hanno rimosso l’ordigno.

Dopo aver messo in sicurezza la pipe bomb, ai residenti è stato permesso il rientro a casa.

Un gruppo che si fa chiamare “Real UFF” ha ammesso la propria responsabilità con una telefonata ad un’agenzia di stampa locale.

Il consigliere di Antrim dell’Alliance Party, Neil Kelly, si dice nauseato da chi ha lasciato l’ordigno fuori dall’abitazione.

“Questo ordigno è un attacco contro l’intera comunità. Non può esserci alcuna giustificazione per un attacco come questo, non importa cosa posso dire i responsabili”, prosegue Kelly.

“Sono molto preoccupato che questi incidenti continuino ad accadere ormai quotidianamente. Sono contento che nessuno sia rimasto ucciso o ferito in quest’ultimo attacco”.

Thomas Burns, parlamentare per South Antrim dello SDLP, ha descritto la famiglia come vittime innocenti “estremamente scossa” da un attacco che non riescono a comprendere.

“La giovane coppia non conosce assolutamente il motivo per questo attacco”, ha affermato.

“Sono una giovane coppia che sta cercando di fare la loro vita e crescere i figli in maniera adeguata.

“Gli ideali dei responsabili non potrebbero essere più contrastanti. Il sentimento dell’intera comunità va a questa giovane famiglia. I vicini con cui ho parlato sono scioccati per quanto avvenuto.

“Spero che chiunque abbia anche solo una piccola informazione sull’incidente la faccia pervenire alla polizia. Come società dobbiamo contrastare questi bulli”.

Pipe bomb sparks Antrim alert

A Catholic family has escaped injury after a viable pipe bomb was left on the windowsill of their Co Antrim home by a Loyalist grouping, UTV understands.

The device – which did not explode – was made safe by Army bomb experts.

The alarm was raised in Fir Grove Lane at around 7.15am on Wednesday morning after reports of a suspicious device.

Police officers located the pipe bomb on the windowsill of a house in the cul-de-sac.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated as army bomb experts removed the device.

It was made safe some time later and people were returned to their homes.

A loyalist grouping calling itself the Real UFF admitted responsibility in a telephone call to a local newsroom.

Alliance Antrim Councillor Neil Kelly says he is sickened by those who left the device beside the house.

“This device was an attack on the whole community. There can never be any justification for an attack like this, no matter what those responsible may claim”, Mr Kelly said.

“I am very concerned that these incidents appear to be happening on a daily basis. I am only glad that no one was killed or injured in this latest attack.”

SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns described the family as innocent victims “extremely shook up” by an attack they can’t understand.

“The young couple are totally unaware as to the motive behind this attack,” he said

“They are a young family just trying to make a way in life and raise their children properly.

“The ideals of those responsible couldn’t be in greater contrast. The heart of the entire community goes out to the family. The neighbours I spoke to are distraught at what has happened to them.

“I hope anybody with even the smallest bit of information regarding this incident brings it to the police. As a society we must stand up to these bullies.”
