La donna se l’è cavata con ferite di minore entità, dopo o scoppio dell’ordigno sotto alla sua vettura, mentre effettuava un’inversione di marcia a East Belfast.
La bomba era piazzata sotto al lato passeggero e la polizia ha riferito che se qualcuno si fosse trovato seduto sul sedile, sarebbe potuto morire.
La polizia sta cercando di indagare su quale fosse l’obiettivo dell’attacco, ma si ritiene che la donna ferita nell’attacco fosse solita accompagnare il proprio compagno al lavoro.
I repubblicani sono sospettati dell’attacco (rivendicato da Oglaigh na hEireann).
L’attacco ha causato una unanime condanna, con il primo ministro che ha descritto gli autori come “malvagi”.
McGuinness, nel frattempo, ha detto che essi non hanno sostegno nella comunità e dovrebbero rispettare la volontà della maggioranza della popolazione in Irlanda, che desidera la prosecuzione dei progressi politici degli ultimi anni.
Secondo il vice primo ministro, i responsabili dell’attacco devono comprendere che le loro azioni sono “inutili”.

McGuinness condemns perpetrators of Belfast attack
The woman escaped with minor injuries after the device exploded beneath her car as she reversed out of her driveway in east Belfast.
The bomb was planted on the passenger side of the vehicle and the police say anyone sitting there would have been killed.
The police are investigating who the intended target was, but the woman who was hurt in the blast is believed to regularly give her partner a lift to work.
Dissident republicans are the most likely suspects for the attack.
The bombing has drawn widespread condemnation, with First Minister Peter Robinson describing the perpetrators as “evil”.
Mr McGuinness, meanwhile, says they have no support in the community and should respect the will of the majority of people in Ireland who want the political progress of recent years to continue.
He says those responsible for yesterday’s attack need to understand that their actions are “futile”.
