Neil Lennon, nordirlandese di Lurgan, dice che non si farà intimidire dalle minacce nel suo ruolo di allenatore del Celtic
“E non avvengono assolutamente per il mio carattere aggressivo sul campo di calcio”, prosegue l’allenatore.
“Se ne parlava molto quando ero giocatore e penso tutti voi sappiate perché queste cose stanno accadendo adesso.
“E’ un bene che la gente ne parli e noi dobbiamo fare qualcosa a riguardo”.
Gli ordigni sono stati indirizzati anche a due importanti tifosi del Celtic, la politica del Labour Trish Godmann e l’avvocato di Lennon, Paul McBride.
“Chiunque nel corso della propria vita non dovrebbe avere a che fare con qualcosa del genere”, afferma Lennon. “Non è piacevole – vedi la tua faccia per ore e ore nei notiziari e dopo un po’ inizi a pesare: «ma stanno parlando di me?»”.
I tifosi sono giunti in sostegno dell’allenatore degli Hoops giovedì sera, tenendo una veglia speciale fuori dallo stadio Celtic Park a Glasgow per mostrare la loro solidarietà. Lennon dice che il sostegno ha significato molto per lui.
“Per me questo è il più grande privilegio della mia vita. Gestire questa squadra di calcio ed il sostegno che ho dai miei fans e dalla famiglia e dagli amici più cari sono la ia forza”, aggiunge.
La mia vita è cambiata un po’ ma le esigenze del lavoro non si sono modificate – mi impegno totalmente per il club ed i tifosi e certamente anche per i giocatori”.
La polizia di Strathclyde afferma che ora una cassetta della posta a Kilwinning, nel North Ayshire, adesso è un punto focale nell’indagine sui pacchi bomba.
Gli investigatori stanno cercando di raggiungere tre testimoni chiave che sono passati accanto alla cassetta delle lettere lo scorso venerdì. Sarebbero una coppia, di età intorno ai 20 anni, e di un altro uomo trentenne.
Ma ora Lennon è concentrato sull’Old Firm che si giocherà domenica all’Ibrox.
“Hai l’opportunità di allenare il Celtic una volta in tutta la vita”, afferma. “Mi sarei pentito per il resto della vita se non avessi accettato. Tutto questo non mi fermeranno dal fare quello che sto facendo”.
La polizia di Strathclyde ha rivelato che più di 1.000 poliziotti saranno dislocati per le vie di Glasgow affinché la giornata si svolga pacificamente.

Lennon ‘won’t be intimidated’
Lurgan man Neil Lennon has said he will not be intimidated out of his job as manager of Celtic by threats, after it emerged parcel bombs had been posted to him.
“And it’s not because it’s my aggressive behaviour on the pitch any more,” he added.
“A lot was said about that when I played and I think you all know the reasons why these things are happening now.
“It’s good that people are talking about it and we will get something done about it.”
Devices were also sent to high profile Celtic fans, former Labour MSP Trish Godman and Lennon’s lawyer Paul McBride QC.
“Anyone in any walk of life shouldn’t have to deal with something like this,” Lennon said. “It is uncomfortable – you see your face every hour on the hour on the news and after a while you start thinking ‘Is that me they are talking about?'”
Fans came out in support of the Hoops boss on Thursday night, holding a special vigil outside Celtic Park in Glasgow to show their solidarity. Lennon said the support meant a lot to him.
“For me this is the greatest privilege in my life, to manage this football club and the support I’ve had from the fans and my close family and friends has been my strength,” he said.
“My life has changed a bit but what the job entails hasn’t changed as far as I’m concerned – I’m totally committed to the club and supporters and certainly committed to the players.”
Strathclyde police say a post box in Kilwinning in North Ayshire is now a focal point of their investigation into the parcel bombs.
They are now trying to track down three potential witnesses who walked past the box last Friday and are looking for a couple, thought to be in their late teens, and another man in his 30s.
But Lennon’s focus is now Sunday’s Old Firm game at Ibrox.
“You get an opportunity to manage Celtic once in a lifetime,” he said. “I would have regretted it the rest of my life if I hadn’t taken it. It (the is not going to deter me from doing what I want to do.”
Strathclyde police have revealed there will be 1,000 extra officers deployed on the streets of Glasgow to ensure the day passes off peacefully.
