Una blast bomb e alcune molotov sono state lanciate contro i poliziotti giunti sulla scena di un allarme sicurezza a Lurgan
Quindici abitazioni sono state evacuate dopo il ritrovamento di un oggetto sospetto all’esterno di una casa derelitta, nelle prime ore di lunedì.
Gli ordigni sono stati lanciati contro la polizia mentre gli artificieri dell’esercito eseguivano un’esplosione controllata dell’oggetto.
Lake Street ed una parte di Antrim Road sono rimaste chiuse.
I servizi ferroviari tra Belfast e Dublino sono stati gravemente danneggiati nel corso della mattina.
Translink ha poi riferito che la linea ferroviaria è stata riaperta e i treni viaggiano normalmente.
Ad inizio di maggio una pipe bomb era stata lanciata contro la stazione di polizia di Lurgan e un finto ordigno era stato abbandonato deliberatamente sempre nella stessa zona, in due incidenti separati.
Dolores Kelly, parlamentare SDLP, ha riferito che la popolazione è furiosa per l’ennesimo allarme sicurezza che ha bloccato la città.
“I responsabili che hanno lasciato questo ordigno non hanno assolutamente rispetto per la gente di questa zona.
“Hanno portato questa città alla paralisi, impedendo ai bambini di andare a scuola e alla gente di eseguire gli impegni quotidiani”; ha affermato.
“E’ stato ritardato l’avvio degli esercizi commerciali e la gente non è potuta andare al lavoro. Questa città non ha bisogno di altri problemi, specialmente durante l’attuale recessione economica.
“Chiedo a chiunque abbia informazioni su questo ordigno, o qualsiasi altra attività sospetta, di farle avere alla polizia prima possibile”, aggiunge.
Il parlamentare shinner John O’Dowd chiede la fine di questi allarmi bomba nella zona.
“Nelle ultime settimane sono state ritrovate pipe bomb nella zona e alcuni ordigni hanno portato paura nella comunità”, ha affermato.
“La gente di North Lurgan merita di essere lasciata in pace perché ha sofferto enormemente durante il conflitto e ha mostrato più volte il sostegno al processo di pace attraverso le elezioni.
“Quelli che sono dietro a questi attacchi devono ascoltare la comunità e andare oltre il pensiero del conflitto”.

Police attacked during Lurgan alert
A blast bomb and a number of petrol bombs have been thrown at police officers attending an ongoing security alert in Lurgan, Co Armagh.
Around 15 homes were evacuated after a suspicious object was found outside a derelict house in the early hours of Monday morning.
The devices were thrown at police as army bomb experts carried out a controlled explosion on the object.
Lake Street and a section of the Antrim Road remain closed.
Train services between Belfast and Dublin were also severely disrupted on Monday morning.
Translink said the line has now re-opened and normal service have resumed.
Earlier this month, a pipe bomb was thrown at Lurgan police station and a deliberate hoax was left near the building in two separate incidents.
SDLP Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly said local people are angry after the latest security alert brought the town to a “standstill”.
“Those responsible for planting this device have absolutely no respect for the people of this area.
“They have brought this town to a standstill preventing children from getting to school and people from going about their daily routine,” she said.
“Businesses have also been delayed from trading and people obstructed from getting to work. This town does not need any further setbacks particularly in the current economic recession.
“I would urge anyone with information on this device, or any other suspicious activity, to pass it onto the police as soon as possible,” she added.
Sinn Fein MLA John O’ Dowd called for an end to the ongoing bomb alerts in the area.
“In recent weeks pipe bombs have been found in the area and a series of bomb hoaxes have brought misery and fear to the local community”, Mr O’Dowd said.
“The people of North Lurgan deserve to be left in peace they suffered greatly during the conflict and have shown their support for the peace process time and time again through the ballot box.
“Those behind these attacks need to listen to the community and move beyond the mindset of conflict.”
