“Gli incidenti di Pasqua a Maghaberry sono l’apice di anni di maltrattamento dei prigionieri repubblicani, dei loro visitatori e delle famiglie. A causa dei maltrattamenti dei repubblicani nella Roe House, non hanno avuto scelta che protestare per evidenziare le terribili condizioni cui sono sottoposti.
Il punto focale del confronto a Maghaberry è incentrato sulla continua negazione dello status di prigioniero politico da parte degli inglesi e di Stormont. Nonostante la prolungata campagna iniziata nel 1976 e culminata con la morte di dieci coraggiosi volontari nel 1981, i ministri britannici non hanno imparato nulla dei ripetuti tentativi di dipingerei prigionieri politici come criminali. Chiediamo anche ai repubblicani di vedere quanto è stato fatto per ottenere così poco.
L’utilizzo dei prigionieri repubblicani come pedoni nella disputa tra il regime carcerario ed il personale è vergognoso. RNU chiede al NIO e alla Prisoner Officers Association di cessare immediatamente questo ignobile sfruttamento.
Ancora una volta, chiediamo a tutti coloro che sono genuinamente interessati ai diritti umani di investigare e svelare i degradanti maltrattamenti dei repubblicani a Maghaberry. RNU Demand Immediate Restoration of Political Status
“Easter’s incident at Maghaberry has been the zenith of years of mistreatment of Republican Prisoners, visitors and families. Due to the maltreatment of Republicans in Roe House felt they had no option but protest to highlight the disgraceful conditions they endure.
The focus of confrontation at Maghaberry, centre’s on the continued denial of political status by Britain and Stormont. It seems that despite the protracted campaign for Political Status that began in 1976 and culminated in the deaths of ten courageous Volunteers in 1981. British Crown Ministers learned nothing from repeated attempts to portray Political Prisoners as criminals. We also challenge Republicans to look at just how much has been given up to achieve so little.
The use of Republican prisoners as pawns in a dispute between the prison regime and staff is shameful. RNU call upon the NIO and the POA to immediately end this sinister exploitation.
Once again, we challenge all those with a genuine interest in human rights to investigate and expose the degrading mistreatment of Republicans in Maghaberry. The Republican Network for Unity offers our continuous support and solidarity to all Political Prisoners and their families”.
