Il leader del DUP Peter Robinson ha detto al congresso del suo partito che ai repubblicani non dovrebbe essere consentito di riportare indietro il processo di pace
“Non dobbiamo prendere per scontata la pace relativa che abbiamo raggiunto. Ci sono ancora repubblicani attivi e pericolosi.
“Hanno senza dubbio il potenziale per uccidere e mettere bombe, ma non hanno la capacità di distruggere i progressi che abbiamo fatto in Irlanda del Nord”.
Robinson, che ha perso il suo seggio a Westminster alle ultime elezioni generali, ha anche delineato i piani per il futuro del partito.
Ha detto ai delegati che le elezioni dell’Assemblea di maggio saranno tra le più importanti per il partito.
“Il prossimo maggio affronteremo un nuovo test elettorale sia per l’Assemblea che per il governo locale. Diciamo sempre che le prossime elezioni saranno quelle più importanti e a volte è vero, ma lo è certamente questa volta”.
“Quattro anni fa abbiamo raggiunto un momento decisivo, abbiamo avuto una decisione da prendere; la costituzione del governo non è stata facile, ma è stata la scelta giusta”.

Dissidents ‘active & dangerous’ – Robinson
DUP leader Peter Robinson has told his party conference that dissident republicans should not be allowed to hold back the peace process.
“We shouldn’t take the relative peace we have achieved for granted. There are still dissident republicans who are active and are dangerous.”
“They undoubtedly have the potential to kill and to bomb but they don’t have the ability to destroy the progress we have made in Northern Ireland.”
Mr Robinson, who lost his Westminster seat at the General Election, also outlined his plans for the party’s future.
Mr Robinson told delegates that the Assembly elections in May would be one of the most important for the party.
“Next May we’ll face new electoral tests for both the Assembly and local government. We always says the next election will be the most important one ever and sometimes it’s true but it certainly is this time.”
“Four years ago we reached a defining moment, we had a decision to take; setting up government wasn’t the easy choice but it was the right choice.”
