Una serie di allarmi bomba in tutto il Nordirlanda hanno causato disagi a Derry, Belfast e Newry
L’allarme bomba al centro commerciale Forestside, preavvertito con una telefonata, è terminato dopo una prolungata ricerca da parte della polizia.
Anche l’allarme sicurezza in Malone Road si è concluso, dopo il ritrovamento di un oggetto sospetto, che è stato esaminato e dichiarato un’imitazione.
Ladybrook Park, nella zona di Finaghy Road, era stato chiuso per un certo periodo dopo il sequestro di un autobus.
Due uomini a volto coperto sono saliti sull’autobus e minacciato l’autista, prima di lasciare un oggetto sospetto a bordo.
Altri allarmi nelle zone di Sandyknowles, Fortwilliam e Wandsworth Road. Tutti gli oggetti ritrovati erano solo imitazioni di ordigni.
L’autostrada M2 è stata chiusa per tra Greencastle e Templepatrick, poi è stata riaperta al traffico.
Alasdair McDonnell, parlamentare SDLP per South Belfast, dice che i responsabili non hanno rispetto o riguardo per la comunità.
“Qualsiasi causa pensino di portare avanti i responsabili, devono sapere che i loro metodi sono respinti dalla gente di questa città”, afferma il politico.
Naomi Long, parlamentare dell’Alliance Party e sindaco di Belfast, dice: “Chi ha provocato questi allarmi vogliono causare il massimo del disagio – comunque tutto ciò che stanno facendo è rendere la gente più determinata a muoversi lontano dal triste e violento passato”.
A Ballymena un centro commerciale in Wellington Street è stato oggetto di un altro allarme bomba.
Nulla è stato trovato.
Treni
I servizi ferroviari a Newry sono stati interrotti dopo una telefonata che avveniva della presenza di una bomba.
La polizia ha trovato un oggetto sospetto vicino ai binari del treno tra Killeen e Meigh.
Translink è stata costretta a cancellare i treni speciali istutuiti per i tifosi di rugby che si dovevano recare a Dublino per la partita contro la Scozia.
Un portavoce della compagnia ha affermato: “Non riteniamo possibile poter ripristinare il servizio prima della partita di rugby tra Irlanda e Scozia.
“Chiediamo scusa per il disagio”.
A Derry, gli artificieri dell’esercito hanno eseguito delle esplosioni controllate su due furgoni rubati abbandonati in luoghi diversi, dopo che la Real IRA aveva annunciato di aver lasciato alcuni ordigni in tutta la città.
La stazione di polizia è stata evacuata, una scuola chiusa e alcune strade sono state chiuse dopo l’avvertimento della Real IRA, che parlava di bombe nascoste nei due veicoli.
Uno dei furgoni era abbandonato fuori dal tribunale di Bishop Street e l’altro vicino alla stazione della polizia di Strand Road.
Alcuni esercizi commerciali e delle abitazioni sono state evacuate e gli automobilisti sono stati avvisati di non recarsi in zona.
Il Northwest Regional College ha riferito che gli edifici in Northland Road e Strand Road sono stati chiusi e gli studenti non potranno entrare nelle aule.
In entrambi i casi non erano presenti degli ordigni funzionanti.
Altre operazioni di polizia si sono svolte sul Craigavon Bridge e in Madams Bank Road.
Secondo la polizia nulla è stato rinvenuto e le aree sono state riaperte al traffico veicolare e pedonale.

Bomb alert chaos across NI
Those behind a series of bomb alerts across Northern Ireland have been slammed for causing major disruption in Derry, Belfast and Newry.
But an incident at the city’s Forestside shopping centre, which was searched by police following a telephone bomb warning, has now ended.
A security alert at Malone Road is also over after a suspicious object was examined and declared a deliberate hoax.
Ladybrook Park in the Finaghy Road North area was sealed off for a time following a bus hijacking incident.
Two masked men boarded the bus and threatened the driver, before leaving a suspicious object on board.
Other alerts in areas including Sandyknowles, Fortwilliam, and Wandsworth Road have been declared hoaxes.
The M2 was also closed for a time northbound at Greencastle and southbound at Templepatrick, but has since reopened.
SDLP South Belfast MP Dr Alasdair McDonnell said those responsible have no respect or regard for the community.
“Whatever cause those responsible think they are serving, they need to know that their methods today are resented and rejected by the people of this city,” he said.
East Belfast Alliance MLA Naomi Long said: “Those who caused these alerts are intent on causing maximum disruption – however all they are doing is making people even more determined to move forward away from Northern Ireland’s sad and violent past.”
In Ballymena, a shopping centre on Wellington Street was at the centre of another alert which has now ended.
Nothing untoward was found.
Trains
In Newry, train services have been disrupted following a telephone bomb warning.
Police discovered a suspicious object close to the railway line between Killeen and Meigh.
Translink has been forced to cancel special trains which were due to be provided for rugby fans travelling to the Ireland match in Dublin against Scotland on Saturday.
A company spokesman said: “It is unlikely that normal services will have resumed before tomorrow’s international rugby match in Dublin between Ireland and Scotland.
“We apologise for the disruption.”
In Londonderry, army bomb experts have carried out controlled explosions on two hijacked vans abandoned at separate locations, after the Real IRA claimed they had left a number of devices across the city.
A police station was evacuated, a college closed and a number of roads blocked after the Real IRA claimed it had planted two bombs in the vehicles.
One of the vans was left outside Bishop St courthouse and the other outside Strand Road PSNI station.
A number of businesses and homes were evacuated and motorists were asked to avoid the areas affected.
The Northwest Regional College also said its Northland Road and Strand Road sites would be closed and advised students not to attend classes.
Both incidents have now been declared hoaxes and the areas reopened.
Further police operations were carried out at Craigavon Bridge and at Madams Bank Road.
According to a police spokeswoman, nothing untoward was found and both areas have been reopened.
