UPRG, ala politica di UDA, contesta le parole del parlamentare di East Londonderry – secondo cui l’organizzazione sta reclutando ragazzi nella propria ala giovanile – bollandole come “sciocchezze”
Ha chiesto alla Independent Monitoring Commission di indagare.
“Questi giovani impressionabili vengono pagati dai padrini per andare in giro e imbrattare la città di messaggi settari carichi di odio, spesso diretti contro gente cattolica che trovano per la loro strada”, ha affermato Dallat.
“L’obiettivo di UDA è molto chiaro – aumentare l’intimidazione, accrescere il settarismo e rendere la vita dei cattolici un inferno”, ha aggiunto.
In un comunicato l’UPRG – ala politica di UDA – ha respinto le accuse, descrivendo i commenti di Dallat “niente più che i pensieri sconnessi di un uomo preoccupato che deve partecipare ad un’elezione il prossimo anno”.
Il segretario regionale di UPRG David Malcolm ha deetto che l’organizzazione ha lavorato “senza sosta per allentare le tensioni a Coleraine” sin dall’omicidio di Kevin McDaid.
Il cattolico, operatore comunitario, fu picchiato a morte da un gruppo di uomini a maggio 2009.
“Le affermazioni di John Dallat sul reclutamento di giovanissimi da parte di UDA sarebbero da ridere se non fossero un’accusa seria. Mi hanno assicurato che non c’è – e non c’è mai stato – alcuna reclutamento da parte di UDA in qualsiasi area di Coleraine”, ha aggiunto Malcolm.
Dallat ha chiesto all’IMC di puntare la propria attenzione verso ciò che descrive come “il marcio cancro silente che sta distruggendo la costruzione di una società a Coleraine”.
“Nell’ultimo rapporto l’IMC ha accettato che UDA sia ancora coinvolta in aggressioni, attacchi contro spacciatori o persone coinvolte in attività anti sociali”, afferma il politico.
“Un nuovo rapporto è atteso per il prossimo mese e spero sinceramente che si concentrerà su Coleraine e sull’intollerabile livello di criminalità che sta avvenendo, gran parte della quale attribuibile a UDA, con conseguenze a lungo termine per la pace e la riconciliazione”, ha continuato.

Dallat claims ‘rubbish’ – UDA
The political wing of the UDA has hit out at an East Londonderry MLA, who says the organisation is recruiting young people into its youth wing, describing the claim as “rubbish”.
He has called on the Independent Monitoring Commission to investigate.
“These young impressionable people are being paid by the godfathers to go out and paint the town with sectarian messages of hate often directed against individual Catholics who have got in their way”, Mr Dallat said.
“The focus of the UDA is very clear – step up intimidation, increase sectarianism and make life a living hell for Catholics”, he added.
In a statement the UPRG hit back at the accusations describing Mr Dallat’s comments as “nothing more than the ramblings of a worried man who has an election to fight next year”.
UPRG Regional Secretary David Malcolm says the organisation has worked “tirelessly to calm tensions in Coleraine” since the murder of Kevin McDaid.
The Catholic community worker was beaten to death by a gang of men in May 2009.
“John Dallat’s claim of recruitment by the UDA of children would be laughable if it wasn’t such a serious allegation. I have been assured that there is not – and has not been any recruitment by the UDA in any area of Coleraine”, Mr Malcolm added.
Mr Dallat has urged the IMC to focus their attention on what he describes as the “silent festering cancer which is destroying the fabric of society in Coleraine”.
“In their last report the IMC accepted that the UDA are still involved in assaults, attacks on individuals alleged to be drug-dealing or involved in anti-social activity”, he said.
“A new report is due out next month and I sincerely hope that it will focus on Coleraine and the totally unacceptable level of criminality taking place much of it attributable to the UDA with long-term consequences for peace and reconciliation”, he continued.
