Aggressione contro Damien Fleming

L’uomo di Coleraine, rimasto ferito gravemente negli scontri settari quando venne assassinato Kevin McDaid, è stato vittima di un altro attacco

Damien Fleming venne aggredito da una banda di lealisti e lasciato in gravi condizioni vicino a casa sua, dopo i disordini scoppiati a maggio tra tifosi dei Rangers e Celtic Glasgow.

Il suo amico e lavoratore comunitatio Kevin McDaid fu assassinato a pochi metri di distanza.

Adesso si è appreso che Fleming è stato aggredito nuovamente mentre ritornava presso la sua abitazione nel quartiere Heights, intorno alle 23:30 di mercoledì.

Due uomini sono usciti dalla loro vettura e lo hanno quindi preso a calci e spintonato, prima di allontanarsi.

Fleming venne dimesso dall’ospedale il mese scorso, in seguito alle gravi ferite riportate a maggio.

Martedì è stato comunicato in tribunale che più di 20 persone hanno ricevuto minacce di morte dopo la morte di McDaid.

Metà dei minacciati sono testimoni, mentre gli altri sono i presunti componenti della banda di lealisti.

Undici persone sono state accusate in relazione alla morte di McDaid ed al tentato omicidio di Fleming.

La polizia ha confermato di trattare l’incidente a Pate’s Lane come settario.

Chiede ad eventuali testimoni di farsi avanti.

Attack targets Coleraine victim

The Coleraine man who was injured in the sectarian clashes that claimed the life of Kevin McDaid has been the target of another attack.

Damien Fleming was attacked by a loyalist mob and left for dead near his home, after disturbances flared between Rangers and Celtic fans in May.

His friend community worker Kevin McDaid was killed just feet away.

It is understood Mr Fleming was assaulted again on his way home in the Heights area at around 11.30pm on Wednesday night.

He was reportedly attacked by two men who got out of a car and kicked and pushed him before making off.

Mr Fleming was discharged from hospital last month.

On Tuesday, the High Court heard that more than 20 people were under death threat following the killing of Kevin McDaid.

Half of those warned by police are witnesses, while the rest include men suspected of involvement in the attack in Coleraine, prosecutors revealed.

Eleven people have been charged in connection with Mr McDaid’s murder and Mr Fleming’s attempted murder.

Police have confirmed they are treating the incident at Pate’s Lane as sectarian.

They have urged witnesses to contact them.
