Le famiglie delle 11 persone assassinate per le strade di West Belfast nella prima giornata di internamento senza processo hanno intensificato la campagna per la giustizia lanciando una petizione sul sito ufficiale del primo ministro britannico.
Il Ballymurphy Massacre Group, sostenuto da Relatives for Justice (RFJ), ha lanciato ieri la petizione nella speranza di garantire un’inchiesta pubblica per le morti di agosto 971.
La petizione riporta: “Noi sottoscriviamo la petizione al Primo Ministro per iniziare un’indagine completamente indipendente e rispettosa dei diritti umani sull’assassinio di 11 civili a Ballymurphy, Belfast tra il 9 e l’11 agosto 1971, per mano del Reggimento Paracadutisti”.
Resterà attiva fino all’1 ottobre 2010.
Undici persone, tra cui una madre di otto figli ed un prete cattolico, furono colpiti e uccisi dall’esercito inglese nei giorni seguenti all’introduzione dell’internamento, il 9 agosto 1971, quando esplose la violenza di strada.
Andree Murphy, vice direttrice del Relatives for Justice, incoraggia la gente a “prestare la propria voce” alla campagna.
“Le famiglie hanno sofferto notevolmente da quei fatidici giorni di agosto 1971”, ha detto.
“Le famiglie disperatamente cercano e meritano la verità e solo un’indagine indipendente stabilirà tutti i fatti che circondano le morti e le seguenti coperture”.

Ballymurphy massacre families launch petition
The families of 11 people killed on the streets of west Belfast in the aftermath of internment have intensified their campaign for justice by launching an online petition on the British Prime Minister’s official website.
The Ballymurphy Massacre Group, supported by Relatives for Justice (RFJ), opened the petition yesterday in the hope of securing a public inquiry into the deaths in August 1971.
The petition states: “We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to initiate a fully independent and human rights compliant investigation into the 11 killings of civilians in Ballymurphy, Belfast between 9th and 11th August 1971 by the Parachute Regiment”.
It will remain open until October 1 2010.
Eleven people, including a mother-of-eight and a Catholic priest, were shot and killed by the British army in the days following the introduction of internment on Monday August 9 1971 when widespread violence ensued.
Andree Murphy, deputy director of RFJ, encouraged the public to “lend their voices” to the campaign.
“The families have suffered egregiously since those fateful days in August 1971,” she said.
“The families desperately need and deserve the truth and only an independent investigation will establish the full facts surrounding the deaths and their subsequent cover-up.”
