I giudici che devono ascoltare l’appello contro la storica decisione (di condannare i 4 repubblicani, ndt) hanno saputo che nono sono ancora state prese decisioni sull’assistenza finanziaria da concedere ai sospettati repubblicani.
Le famiglie delle vittime hanno ottenuto in primo grado un risarcimento, nel corso dell’azione civile contro l’attacco della Real IRA, stanno ancora aspettando di sapere se riceveranno fondi aggiuntivi per l’appello sull’entità dei danni.
A giugno il giudice Morgan, ora Lord Chief Justice, ordinò che oltre 1,6 milioni di sterline fossero pagati ai 12 parenti che citarono i presunti responsabili per la bomba di Omagh, costata la vita a 29 persone e provocò centinaia di feriti.
Ma le famiglie che presentarono l’azione civile presso l’Alta Corte stanno spingendo per un risarcimento ancora maggiore contro chi ritengono responsabile.
Il comandante della Real IRA, ora in carcere, Michael McKevitt, e altri tre uomini, Liam Campbell, Colm Murphy e Seamus Daly sono stati tutti ritenuti responsabili per la bomba di Omagh, dopo un processo durato un anno.

Judges due to hear a challenge to the landmark ruling have been told no decision has been made yet on financial assistance for the dissident republican suspects.
Victims families awarded compensation in the civil action they brought over the Real IRA attack are also still waiting to hear if they will receive exceptional funding to appeal the level of damages.
In June Mr Justice Morgan, now the Lord Chief Justice, ordered that more than £1.6 million in total should be paid out to 12 relatives who sued over the August 1998 massacre which claimed 29 lives and hundreds more.
But the families who took the High Court civil action are pressing for a more punitive award of exemplary damages to be made against those held liable.
Jailed Real IRA chief Michael McKevitt and three other men, Liam Campbell, Colm Murphy and Seamus Daly were all found responsible for the bombing following a year-long trial.
