ITV usa spezzone di videogioco in un documentario sui rapporti IRA-Gheddafi

ITV ha ammesso che in un documentario riguardante l’IRA è stata inserita per errore una scena presa da un videogioco, sostenendo si trattasse di un vero attacco della formazione repubblicana.

Nel documentario “Exposure: Gheddafi e l’IRA”, messo in onda lunedì sera, veniva illustrato come il dittatore libico Muammar Gheddafi inviasse armi all’IRA a metà degli anni Ottanta.

Il documentario presentava un filmato preso da Internet riguardante un gioco di simulazione militare chiamato Arma II, ma lo ha descritto come un attacco compiuto dall’IRA nel 1988 contro un elicottero dell’esercito britannico.

Un portavoce di ITV ha affermato: “Gli eventi mostrati nel documentario sono genuini ma sembra che durante il processo di editing il filmato corretto del 1988 non è stato selezionato e un altro video è stato erroneamente inserito dai produttori. Si tratta di un errore umano del quale ci scusiamo”.

ITV: IRA film was from video game

ITV has admitted that a documentary about the IRA mistakenly used a scene from a video game and claimed it was a real IRA attack.

Monday night’s Exposure: Gaddafi and the IRA discussed how deposed Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi sent weapons to the IRA in the mid-1980s.

The documentary lifted footage from the internet that shows a clip from a military simulation game called Arma II, but described it incorrectly as footage of a 1988 IRA attack on a British Army helicopter.

An ITV spokesman said: “The events featured in Exposure: Gaddafi and the IRA were genuine but it would appear that during the editing process the correct clip of the 1988 incident was not selected and other footage was mistakenly included in the film by producers. This was an unfortunate case of human error for which we apologise.”
