Donaldson ha dichiarato: “La persona nominata dallo Sinn Fein per sedere nella Strategic Review of Parading Group guidata da Lord Ashdown aveva convenuto di dover rimpiazzare la Commissione Parate.
“Nonostante questo rappresentate riportasse costantemente allo Sinn Fein mentre in gruppo sviluppava il proprio rapporto, Gerry Kelly adesso sta dicendo che la Parades Commission deve rimanere. Che razza di dirigenza è questa?”
Per Donaldson la dirigenza Sinn Fein sembra impappinarsi sulla sua futura posizione.
“E’ chiaro che lo Sinn Fein navighi nella confusione, con differenti rappresentanti che rendono dichiarazioni contrastanti.
“Sono d’accordo con una certa cosa mentre stanno in una stanza ma fuori dalla porta prendono altre posizioni.
“La gente si chiede chi parla a nome dello Sinn Fein. E’ cambiata la loro strategia? E se sì, perché?”
Ha quindi reiterato la posizione del DUP, secondo cui erano i repubblicani, in origine, a collegare le parate al trasferimento dei poteri di polizia e giustizia.
Il parlamentare del DUP, eletto a Westminster e a Stormont nella circoscrizione di Lagan Valley, prosegue: “Era stato lo Sinn Fein, per primo, a collegare la questione delle parate con la devolution dei poteri quando si sono rifiutati di avanzare il rapporto dello Strategic Review of Parading fino a quando i poteri di polizia e giustizia fossero stati trasferiti.
“La posizione del DUP sull’argomento sono completamente coerenti, mostrati in molti manifesti elettorali.
“Il partito non ha imposto alcuna nuova pre-condizione – abbiamo sempre detto che la fiducia da parte della comunità deve esistere prima del trasferimento dei poteri”.

Sinn Fein in ‘parades U-turn’
He said comments by the party’s Junior Minister Gerry Kelly yesterday represented a total about-face by Sinn Fein.
Mr Donaldson said: “The person who Sinn Fein nominated to sit on Ashdown’s Strategic Review of Parading Group has agreed that the Parades Commission should be replaced.
“Despite this representative consistently reporting back to Sinn Fein as the group developed its report, Gerry Kelly is now saying the Parades Commission must stay. What kind of leadership is this?”
He said the Sinn Fein leadership appeared to be floundering over its position on the way forward.
“It is very clear that Sinn Fein is submerged in confusion with different representatives making conflicting statements.
“They agree one thing inside the room but outside the door they take another position.
“The public demands to know who speaks for Sinn Fein. Has their policy changed and if it has why?”
He again reiterated the DUP’s position that it was republicans who originally tied parades and policing and justice.
The Lagan Valley MLA said: “It was Sinn Fein who first linked the issue of parading with the devolution of policing and justice when they refused to advance the Strategic Review of Parading Report until policing and justice powers had been devolved.
“The DUP’s position on this issue has been completely consistent over several election manifestos.
“The party has not set any new pre-conditions – we have always said that community confidence must exist before the transfer of policing and justice powers.”
