Ó hOisín ha parlato dopo il 12 luglio, quando a Limavady furono eretti numerosi bonfire, su molti dei quali erano presenti i suoi manifesti elettorali.
“L’area che rappresento è a cavallo di tre diverse aree di comando PSNI e ho avuto reazioni diverse alle questioni analoghe segnalate in ogni area in materia di bandiere e bonfire.
“Mentre sono stato contento del modo professionale con cui è stata trattata la mia denuncia in una zona, le altre aree non hanno espresso lo stesso livello di servizio.
“E’ importante che ci sia un approccio coerente a questi problemi in ogni area, in modo da poter risolvere in modo uniforme gli eventuali problemi.
“Solleverò questi problemi con i miei colleghi del Policing Board in modo da far arrivare la questione ai più alti livelli e garantire una sola politica in tutte le divisioni”.
Un portavoce della PSNI ha detto: “Come sempre accade, la polizia ha lavorato su questa particolare questione consultando le agenzie partner e la comunità locale. Questo approccio di partenariato è concordato dal «Protocollo congiunto in relazione all’esposizione di bandiere nelle aree pubbliche», insieme con il ministero dell’Ambiente, il ministero per lo Sviluppo Regionale, il ministero per lo Sviluppo Sociale, l’Ufficio del Primo Ministro e Vice Primo Ministro ed il Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Siamo fermamente impegnati attraverso il nostro lavoro con le agenzie partner di queste ed altre, così come con le comunità locali, per affrontare le questioni che circondano l’esposizione di bandiere nelle aree comuni.
“Siamo consapevoli che la questione delle bandiere rimane molto difficile ed emotiva e continuiamo ad esortare tutti a proseguire nel lavoro per garantire che le persone possano vivere senza paura e intimidazione, che si tratta di un fondamentale diritto umano”.

Consistency needed on flags issue – O’hOisin
Assemblyman Ó hOisín was speaking after The Twelfth in Limavady where a number of bonfires were erected around Limavady, several of which had his election posters hoisted at the top.
“The area I represent straddles three different PSNI Command areas and I got different reactions to similar issues raised in each area relating to flags and bonfires.
“While I was happy with the professional way my complaint was dealt with in one area the other areas did not deliver that same level of service.
“It is important that we have a consistent approach to these problems from each area so that we can address any problems that arise in a uniform manner.
“I will be raising these concerns with my colleagues on the Policing Board so that we can raise the matter at the highest levels and ensure one policy is in position right across the command areas.”
A PSNI spokesperson said: “As is always the case, police have worked on this particular issue in consultation with partner agencies and the local community. This agreed partnership approach is set out in the ‘Joint Protocol in Relation to the Display of Flags in Public Areas’, along with the Department of the Environment, Department for Regional Development, Department for Social Development, Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister, and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. We are firmly committed through our work with these and other partner agencies, as well as local communities, to address the issues surrounding the flying of flags in public areas.
“We are aware that the issue of flags remains a very difficult and emotive one and would continue to urge everyone to keep working to ensure that people can live without fear or intimidation, which is a basic fundamental human right.”
