La polizia che indaga su una serie di attacchi a East Belfast ha scoperto una “fabbrica di bottiglie molotov” e nascondigli per munizioni e fuochi d’artificio
Tre persone sono state arrestate a seguito delle ricerche in alcuni locali di Tower Street e Tower Court nel pomeriggio di mercoledì.
La fabbrica di molotov è stata smantellata e gli oggetti sono stati portati via per ulteriori esami.
L’Ispettore capo della PSNI Mark McEwan ha dichiarato: “Questi sequestri sono significativi e sono una chiara indicazione del nostro costante impegno a lavorare con le comunità locali per tenerle al sicuro.
“C’è stato un aumento delle tensioni a livello di interfaccia, in seguito ad una serie di incidenti che si sono verificati in entrambe le comunità, in questi ultimi giorni”.
La scoperta arriva dopo un periodo di accresciute tensioni nell’interfaccia di East Belfast.
Attacchi con bottiglie incendiarie sono avvenuti da entrambi i lati della peaceline, colpendo anche i residenti di Short Strand e Cluan Place.
La polizia ha chiesto chiunque abbia informazioni a farsi avanti.

Petrol bomb factory found near interface
Police investigating a spate of attacks in east Belfast have uncovered a “petrol bomb factory”, plus stashes of ammunition and fireworks.
Three people have been arrested following the searches at premises on Tower Street and at Tower Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The petrol bomb factory has been dismantled and items have been taken away for examination.
PSNI Chief Inspector Mark McEwan said: “These seizures are significant and are a clear indication of our ongoing commitment to working with local communities to keep them safe.
“There has been an increase in tensions at the interface, following a number of incidents that have occurred in both communities, over recent days.”
The discovery comes after a period of heightened tensions at the east Belfast interface.
Reports have been made of petrol bomb attacks on either side of the peace wall, affecting residents in areas including the Short Strand and Cluan Place.
Police asked anyone with further information to come forward.
