Ardoyne: casa attaccata da Oglaigh na hEireann

Ardoyne house ‘attacked by vigilantes’

PSNI | Polizia | Police

A number of windows have been broken at a property in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast in what is understood to have been a vigilante type attack.

The incident happened at a property in Cranbrook Gardens in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is understood the attack was carried out by Óglaigh na hÉireann as a result of a alleged anti-social behaviour in the area.

A leaflet was reportedly distributed to households in the area by masked men on Saturday, stating that a local resident was asked to leave the area, but refused and was then forcibly removed as a result.

A police statement said: “Due to the fact that repairs were required to be carried out on the property the resident advised police she would temporarily relocate to alternative accommodation until these works were completed.”

It continued: “The PSNI does not tolerate any type of vigilante activity and we would caution any individual or group against taking the law into their own hands. Those who do may themselves commit offences and may subsequently be liable to prosecution.”
