Sinn Fein man’s home is attacked
A Sinn Fein assembly member has accused “criminal groups masquerading as republicans” of attacking his north Antrim home on Monday morning.
Daithí McKay said he had been speaking to people in Rasharkin about other attacks on property at the weekend.
When he returned home he said he found his front window had been put in, as had the window pane of his front door.
“We (Sinn Fein) said that we will stand toe to toe with these people and that is exactly what we will do,” he said.
“It’s time they got off the back of this community.”
Mr McKay said the attackers may also have broken into his house during the incident.
Police said they were investigating an incident in which a pane of glass was broken at a house in Rasharkin.
In another incident in the village, on Sunday night two women were assaulted and a window and door damaged at a hot food bar at Main Street.
It happened at about 1920 BST and one man has been arrested. Police have appealed for witnesses.
Attacks
There have been a number of attacks on Sinn Fein properties in recent weeks.
In west Belfast, the party said Connolly House had been attacked three times in two weeks, while in Londonderry a Sinn Fein office was damaged in an arson attack.
Assembly member Mitchel McLaughlin’s Derry home was attacked on 6 April, while deputy leader Martin McGuinness said he had been told of a threat to his life by dissident republicans.
