UDA chief Jackie McDonald: Lennon bomb is disgraceful

UDA chief Jackie McDonald has called the targeting of Celtic manager Neil Lennon “a total disgrace”.

Jackie McDonald, Ulster Defence Association (UDA)The paramilitary leader and Rangers fan was commenting after viable parcel bombs were sent to Lennon and two prominent Celtic fans.

“It has to be totally condemned,” McDonald told the Belfast Telegraph.

Asked if he believed there could be UDA involvement, he responded: “Absolutely not.

“I don’t think any paramilitary organisation would have anything to do with it.

“I cannot imagine any paramilitaries wanting to become involved in that type of activity.”

McDonald said he believed the bombs were part of “a personal vendetta”.

“I’ve an awful lot of friends in Scotland who are Rangers fanatics and they don’t agree with this sort of thing,” the south Belfast-based UDA leader said.

The loyalist said he had not been to an Old Firm game for two or three years, but he made this comment about the Celtic manager: “I don’t like the fella. That’s a personal opinion.”
