Pipe bombings and rioting in Creggan
THE PSNI came under attack in the Creggan area of Londonderry last night (Sunday, December 6).
A mob of between 40 and 50 people threw petrol bombs and other missiles at officers having been called to the scene at Circular Road. They were investigating reports that a pipe bomb had been thrown through the window of a car on the street.
A short time later, another device was located in a car in Iniscairn Road. Both devices had failed to explode.
An overnight report from the PSNI confirmed that the police and Army Technical Officers remained in the Creggan Estate until 5am this morning (Monday, December 7). They removed two devices for further examination.
The statement appealed for witnesses to the incidents to contact detectives in Londonderry on 0845600800 or to call charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800555111.
Police stated that whilst investigations are in their initial stages and a link between both explosive devices has yet to be established that is forming one line on enquiry.
