Arrests at home of Iris Robinson’s lover Kirk McCambley
Two journalists were arrested this week at the home of Iris Robinson’s former lover, Kirk McCambley.
They were a reporter and photographer from the Sunday World newspaper. They were freed on police bail following an assault accusation.
Reports say Mr McCambley’s housemate discovered the men inside the house, which is up for rent.
Mrs Robinson has resigned as an MP after a BBC investigation into her business dealings with Mr McCambley.
She obtained £50,000 from two property developers to help him set up a cafe business.
She failed to register the money with the authorities at either Stormont or Westminster as the law required.
The police said they had received a complaint of assault at property in the Belmont area of east Belfast at 1830 GMT on Wednesday.
They arrested two men, aged 45 and 58, and released them on bail pending further enquiries.
The men were not taken into custody and have been given a date to report to a police station.
The letting agents for the house said they had not facilitated the men’s entry.
The reporter who was detained, Hugh Jordan, told the BBC he was there “legitimately and with the consent of the landlord” and that he had co-operated fully with police.
The Sunday World is one of Northern Ireland’s biggest selling tabloid newspapers.
