Pair charged over Ardoyne rioting

Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with Eleventh Night rioting in north Belfast.

Riot @ ArdoyneBoth are accused of involvement in the violence which flared in Ardoyne.

Anthony Marley, 23, of St Columbans Court, Belfast, faces charges of riotous assembly and criminal damage to a motor vehicle, according to the Courts Service.

He was granted bail to reappear before the city’s Magistrates’ Court next month.

Also appearing was Roy Lillis, of Cliftonville Avenue, Belfast.

The 24-year-old faces two counts of riotous assembly.

Lillis was remanded in custody to appear again on August 22.

Both men were charged by police who have made dozens of arrests following the disturbances.

Shots were fired at officers along with petrol and paint bombs during three nights of street disorder.

Police responded with water cannon and baton rounds in a bid to quell the rioting.
