La PSNI arresta Paddy Murray in Inghilterra
Dissident arrest at English jail
Dissident republican Paddy Murray has been arrested by PSNI detectives outside a prison in England.
Murray, who is 47 and a former IRA prisoner, had been serving a four-year sentence for kidnapping and assaulting a man in Antrim.
He served one month of that term in Maghaberry Prison before being moved to a jail in England.
A police spokeswoman said: “A 47-year-old man has been arrested in relation to serious crime in Northern Ireland.”
She added: “He was arrested in England by detectives from the PSNI working in association with English police.
“He is being questioned in England.”
In 1994, Murray was sentenced to 25 years in prison for possession of explosives but was released in 2000 under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.
His move from Maghaberry to an unidentified jail in England coincided with claims that he had been working as an informer for the security forces.
