Officers injured in west Belfast riots
Five police officers have been injured during rioting in west Belfast for the second night in a row.
Petrol bombs, stones and fireworks were thrown at police in the Broadway and Bog Meadows area at around 8.30pm on Saturday.
Police land rovers also came under physical attack from crowds of individuals wielding sign posts and pieces of masonry.
One man is believed to have attacked a police vehicle with an axe.
The injured officers sustained head and body injuries.
One was hit on the head with an iron bar.
During the trouble police fired a number of baton rounds. The Police Ombudsman’s office has launched an investigation.
Police were forced to close the Stockman’s Lane off-slip and the Westlink at Clifton Street at around 11.40pm.
On Friday night, four police vehicles were damaged during previous rioting in the area.
