Soldier murder suspect released

A man being questioned about the Real IRA murders of two soldiers at an Antrim Army base in March has been released without charged.

massereene barracksThe 43-year-old, who was arrested in west Belfast on Tuesday, was also being questioned about five attempted murders during the attack.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man questioned about the murder of Constable Stephen Carroll in Craigavon has been released.

A report is being sent to the Public Prosecution Service.

Sappers Patrick Azimkar and Mark Quinsey were shot dead outside Massereene barracks in Antrim by the Real IRA.

Two days later, Constable Carroll was murdered by the Continuity IRA.

The two young soldiers were the first to be murdered in Northern Ireland in 12 years, while Constable Carroll’s murder was the first of a police officer in NI since 1998.
